Cereals

Consume:

  • Barley 
  • Aged rice (basmati)
  • Oats (not quick oats)
  • Millet

Avoid:

  • Recently harvested rice (jasmine): too dense
  • Wheat 

    Pulses

    Consume:

    Avoid:

    Vegetables

    Consume:

    • Beets
    • Carrots
    • Cabbage, cauliflower
    • Sprouts
    • Bamboo shoots
    • Raddish

      Avoid:

      • Potatoes
      • Tomatoes
      • Cucumber
      • Celery
      • Zucchini

        Fruits:

        Consume:

        • Dried fruit (limited quantities, ie few pieces/day)
        • Apple (sour not sweet)
        • Pomegranate
        • Papaya, Mango (in small quantities)
        • Almonds, walnuts (very small quantity)

          Avoid:

          • Dates
          • Banana
          • Grapes
          • Oranges
          • Pineapple
          • Watermelon

            Meat:

            Consume:

            • Poultry (chicken, turkey)
            • Dry, light fish

              Avoid:

              • Fatty fish
              • Lamb
              • Beef
              • Duck 
              • Pork

              Herbs:

              Consume (hot, pungent; almost all herbs and spices pacify kapha):

              • Cayenne
              • Dry ginger
              • Pepper
              • Turmeric
              • Garlic
              • Mustard

                Avoid:

                • cilantro
                • mint

                  Sugar: 

                  Consume:

                  • Honey - very limited

                    Avoid:

                    • Molasses

                      Oils:

                      Consume:

                      • Olive oil
                      • Mustard Seed
                      • Sesame

                      Avoid:

                      • All other oils

                      Water/Liquid:

                      Consume:

                      • Hot liquid

                        Avoid:

                        • Cold liquids

                          Milk/Dairy Products:

                          Consume:

                          Avoid:

                          • Ice cream
                          • Butter
                          • Cheese
                          • Heavy cream
                          • Half & Half

                            Regimen

                            Do:

                            • Fasting diet regularly (consult with practitioner for directions)
                            • Sudation (sweat therapy in sauna)
                            • Strenuous exercise (follow guidelines given from practitioner)

                              Avoid:

                              • Oleation (consumption of excess oil)
                              • Abhyanga (external application of oil unless directed by practitioner)
                              • Prolonged sitting
                              • Day time sleeping
